About
Gallóglaigh is JP’s black metal project, formed in Texas in 2021.
JP writes the music and lyrics, plays guitar and bass, and sings backing vocals. Akhen Vandeamon handles lead vocals, SP sings clean and choir vocals, and Nikola Dušmanić plays and arranges the drums from Ezoterik Studio in Serbia.
The name is Irish. The gallóglaigh, or gallowglass, were mercenary warriors from the Hebrides and the western Highlands of Scotland who fought for Irish lords from the 13th to the 16th century.

Gallóglaigh is a black metal project exploring cosmic dissolution, isolation and ancestral memory, delivering dark, aggressive music with a cold, expansive atmosphere. Conceived by JP as a solo project, it has steadily evolved in scope and execution since its 2022 debut, from Luaith through Upon Silent Waters (2025) and Shadows Cast (2026). A new album, Between Light and the Darkness, is in the works.
Long bio
Gallóglaigh emerged in 2022 as a black metal project driven by an uncompromising vision of cosmic hostility, destruction and the erosion of meaning. Founded by JP as a solo project, it emphasizes complete creative control, and now records with Akhen Vandeamon on lead vocals, SP on clean and choir vocals, and Nikola Dušmanić on drums.
The debut album Luaith (2022), released independently alongside the companion EP Ritual, established the project’s foundations: bleak atmospheres, abrasive riffing, and themes centered on death and existential collapse. In 2023, Realms Unknown expanded the project’s ambition with a dense, end-to-end album experience, pushing compositional complexity and scale.
A turning point came in 2024 with Fall of Eternity’s Throne, which marked a deliberate redefinition of Gallóglaigh’s sound. While retaining its thematic core, the album refined songwriting, production quality and overall cohesion, laying the groundwork for the project’s next evolution.
Upon Silent Waters (2025) further developed the sonic identity introduced on Fall of Eternity’s Throne, expanding atmosphere, sharpening aggression, and realizing Gallóglaigh’s vision of cosmic desolation through black metal.
In 2026, Shadows Cast revisited eight songs from Luaith, Realms Unknown and Ritual with all-new mixes and masters. A new album, Between Light and the Darkness, is in the works.

JP is the architect behind Gallóglaigh, shaping its sound through deliberate, layered guitar work and tension-driven melody. Rooted in black metal tradition while reaching toward more expansive territory, his compositions emphasize atmosphere, contrast and emotional austerity, drawing on themes of lineage, isolation and endurance.

Akhen Vandeamon Lead vocals
Akhen Vandeamon is the voice of Gallóglaigh, delivering a venomous, controlled rasp that cuts through dense guitars and war-driven percussion. His vocals move between harsh precision and ritualistic choral intensity, reinforcing the project’s hostile and uncompromising atmosphere.

SP Clean & choir vocals
SP is a new and as yet unknown vocalist, bringing an ethereal, almost liturgical voice to Gallóglaigh. Her vocals draw from Eastern choral traditions and Celtic influence, adding a haunting contrast.

Nikola Dušmanić Drums & drum arrangements
Nikola Dušmanić is a professional drummer from Serbia with more than 20 years behind the kit. He runs Ezoterik Studio, where he works as a session drummer and mixing and mastering engineer, recording drums for black metal acts worldwide; his credits include The Stone, Primordial Black, Dark Seal, Ascalapha, Félonie, Insepultus and Tine.
